AKASHVANI: THEN & NOW – Seminar at Mangalore
Mangalore Unit of NFADE organized a day long symposia on the subject “ Akashvani: Then & Now “ on Thursday, the 4th November 2010 at SDM College Hall Mangalore, by involving prominent personalities in the area of Broadcasting, to bring forth the focus of our Administrators and public about this powerful media organisation. The seminar was organized in coordination with institutions such as Karnataka State Media Academy, SDM Education Institution of Mangalore and the Journalism Department of Mangalore University. Rajarshi Dr.D.Veerendra Heggade, the Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala inaugurated the seminar by lighting the lamp and Sh. M.V.Kamath, former Chairman Prasar Bharati & noted journalist presided over the function. Sh. Nalin Kumar Kateel, Hon’ble MP (Lok Sabha – Mangalore) released the souvenir “Banuliya Belaku” on the occasion. Dr.D. Veerendra Heggade, one of the most influential personality in Karnataka and heading 160 educational instituttions, urged upon the Government to take AIR&DD back to its fold to protect the media organisation, which played a major role in integrating people of the country as Indians. Sh. M.V.Kamat, recalling his association with All India Radio since 1956 and later in the capacity of Chairman, Prasar Bharati for more than 4 years, agreed with the demand of NFADE to Repeal Prasar Bharati Act 1990, terming Prasar Bharati as a blot on the Nation and the public. Sh. Naleen Kumar Kateel, Hon’ble MP, pointing out that he has already written to the Govt to Repeal PB Act 1990, assured his support in the efforts of NFADE to protect AIR&DD and its employees. Various personalities in the field of media & broadcasting participated in the day long seminar “ Akashvani: Then & Now” – with the concept of Akashvani – Its Strength and Range. Seminar was presided over by Sh. N. G. Shreenivas, Former DDG, AIR&DD and the papers were present on various subjects such as “Akashvani – its role in the development”, “Akashvani – Preserver of Art & Culture”, “Akashvani and news authenticity”, ”Akashvani’s strength as a news medium” etc. The main participants in the symposia were: Sh. The seminar passed a resolution, urging the Govt to Repeal Prasar Bharati Act 1990 and strengthen AIR & Doordarshan immediately. The resolution was handed over to Sh. V. Shiva Kumar, Member (Personnel), Prasar Bharati in the valedictory function. Sh. V. Shiva Kumar, Member (P), Prasar Bharati was the Chief Guest in the valedictory function. While assuring to bring resolution to the notice of the Prasar Bharati Board & Ministry of I&B, Sh. Shiva Kumar called upon the employees to move together to take AIR & Doordarshan to new heights with our combined efforts. Sh. Chethankumar S.
