Report of UNI-MEI South Asia & South-East Asia Sub regional Broadcasting Workers’ Workshop
As per the nomination b the President of ARTEE, we, the following four members represented in the UNI-MEI South and South-East Asia Broadcasting workers’ workshop at Colombo.
The 3 days workshop started on 24/02/05 at 9 AM. After registration, Opening ceremony started with welcome address by Sri Lanka UNI Liaison Council and Federation of Media Employees Trade Union (FMETU). There after valuable remarks were given by Mr.Jim Wilson, Director UNI-MEI. Then a key note speech was given by Mr.Mahinda Rajpakse, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Democratic socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, on present and future of Public & Private Broadcasting in Sri Lanka. After self introduction it was observed that total 41 participants of 13 countries including UNI-MEI Secretariat & SIF Sweden were present.
The entire session continued with the discussion mainly on Collective Bargaining at different countries with the country reports including the question session, whereas discussion on important topics like “Effects of New Technology on Broadcasting” & “ Equal opportunity of Employment and Advancement in Broadcasting” also took place on 25/02/05 & 26/02/2005 respectively.
The visit to Colombo Broadcasting facility – SLRC & SLBC on 25/02/05 after lunch helped us a lot in increasing our practical knowledge.
We had a good interaction with the representatives of different countries regarding their facilities, systems and problems which which were discussed in detail and it certainly increased our knowledge and views for further guidelines.
The entire trip with high level of hospitality was enjoyable and useful to us & also for ARTEE.
